I love this song so much. And you guys with the lead singer of Rise Against (another awesome band) just make perfection. Amazing song. Love it! =]

I’m a little disappointed. All of the previous videos by Flobots have highlighted important issues, or described the message of the song. The white flags surrounding the band had a shallow, literal message and almost completely took away from the heart of the song. This felt more like a clothing ad, or a generic rock video than a statement by a normally profound band. I love you all, and I know you can do better. Can’t wait to hear the new album, and see what else you have to pull out of your hats.

People who publicly correct other people’s work are shallow.

  8. Mason M. 12 March 2010 at 8:22 pm #

Well Stephanie that is where you’re wrong. The name of the song is WHITE FLAG WARRIOR. I really don’t think that the band needed to use a load of symbolism for a song with a literal title like that. I actually prefer this video because of its simplicity. The band ,in my opinion, wanted to leave all the imagination up to the viewer. Most likely why they added in the random people dressed in white. That’s my opinion anyway.

First of all Stephanie, violence is a very important issue. You must not know much about the Flobots. Because if you did, you’d know that they believe in non-violence. The video portrays a slender young man being bullied, and instead of him fighting back, he retreats. What’s symbolic is the white T he is wearing. ~We’d rather make our children White Flag Warriors. The message couldn’t be much simpler than that. Non-violence. Under any circumstances.

  12. Esperanza Saiz 12 March 2010 at 10:49 pm #

“wow.” I love that Tim is in the video. and Stephanie, this video is amazing because it’s a situation everyone is familiar with. “WE” are white flag warriors. great job guys! I’m still diggin it.

  13. Joel 12 March 2010 at 10:55 pm #

love your band sick music. you all make me wanna do something lol. i feel like i dont contribute enough so your songs make me work harder. and there will always be haters dont listen to them

  14. Keith 12 March 2010 at 11:16 pm #

You guys are without question, talented musicians. I very much enjoy your sound and style while I cringe at your politics. It would be wonderful to live in a world where your utopian ideals would succeed, but unfortunately the Next Hitler, Stalin or Ahmadinejad is always lurking around the next corner.
The only true white flag warriors in history lived under Hitler’s rule until those willing to fight came to save them…..

  15. Brandon 13 March 2010 at 12:15 am #

Stephanie not trying to bash ya, but the message behind the video is extremely powerful. Really we should pay attention to the words more than the video itself, yes its a Music Video. However you saw clearly how the young kid portrays being a “White Flag Warrior”. Blah Blah, Just like one said above. Id rather see this video due to its simplicity.

  16. MxMike 13 March 2010 at 8:49 am #

You all have fun facing the new world order with your white flags and your peace and love. You guys are already dead buying into this crap. How far did non-violence get the jews in WWII? WE ARE DEAD UNLESS WE FIGHT.

  17. courtney 13 March 2010 at 9:30 am #

Does anyone know whats with the two girls in the video??

  18. Mason M. 13 March 2010 at 1:30 pm #

Ah MxMike the Jews in WWII were an entirely different situation. They COULD NOT fight back even though they wanted to. They were forced to flee or hide, or face certain death. This song is saying by portraying a pacifistic mindset, others would be less inclined to seek violence against you. Read up on your Worl War II before you put that idiotic crap up here and are given a history lesson by a 16 year old

  19. Jonathan 13 March 2010 at 4:03 pm #

MxMike, Keith — you cite history like a school child taunting someone by repeating something you heard. But I’ll play: there are dozens of examples of nonviolent resistance under Nazi rule, which resisted the rise of the regime, supported those it persecuted and hastened the end of the war. These were the people who knew, and spoke, while the rest of the world looked away. Abandoned, ignored, and the war came. It was not a victory.

  20. Hannes 13 March 2010 at 4:40 pm #

MxMike: Haven’t you listened to the song at all? It SAYS “rather be martyrs (dead) than fight back” [Uh, no, I want to be a martyr AND alive]. Well that sounds like a very good idea to me, sadly it wouldn’t be possible ( :( )

Flobots rules, this song together with Fight with Tools are the best songs.

(If there’s some bad english here, i is because I’m from Sweden)

  21. MxMike 14 March 2010 at 6:22 am #

Yeaaa. I would much rather fight back than to die like a pussy refusing to fight. And the jews couldn’t fight back because why? THE PUBLIC WAS DISARMED. They obeyed…some fought back but it was up to US to come dig them out. I will keep my guns and you guys can keep your peace and we’ll see who survives this thing. Best of luck…y’all are going to need it, for sure. When shit hits the fan, being unarmed almost means certain death. You’re going to be screaming your peace crap while they drag you into FEMA Death Camps to gas you and stuff your bodies 3-5 deep into disposable coffins. Liberty or death.

  22. MxMike 14 March 2010 at 6:26 am #

Don’t get me wrong. These dudes are talented and I dig the music, oftentimes not the message, though. Love and peace will NOT work against an army of sick and twisted billionaires who use violence against my people and the people of the world on a daily basis…it doesn’t phase them. They killed 3000 U.S. citizens on 9/11…THEN they perpetuate two wars on innocent nations in the name of their own crimes…two wars based on lies…MILLIONS of innocent people killed. They will gladly make you a “martyr”…they won’t even think twice about it.

  23. Hannes 14 March 2010 at 9:40 am #

Well, nobody will MAKE you agree with Flobots’ messages it’s just that in your first comment you said that it would be stupid not to fight back, because then you die. Then I said that is what the song IS about rather be a martyr than be maybe as violent and “savage” as some terrorists can be. Of course, if there was a situation where you had to choose between that some for example religious fanatic group, or KKK or something threatened to take over the world and kill every single person who didn’t agree with their sick oppinions or fight back… Then I too would choose to fight back, but there is no such situation going on right now in the world. But if a guy hits another guy in the face, and the other guy choose to walk away instead of hitting back, maybe other people would see it, and most of those people would empathize(?) with the guy being hit. Then in the end the hitting guy would have no or very few friends, fun for him?

  24. Thi Tran 14 March 2010 at 10:23 am #

Do you people not see that instead of violence, the Flobots choose to emit messages through their music? So what if another Hitler does come along? The problem lies within that person’s mindset. Evidently, they were raised in a messed up way. We can’t just beat morals into their head. We aren’t animals. We’re human. We possess the ability to communicate. And with that, we, non-violently, can keep malformed mentalities from being created. Who says we can’t ALL change for the better?

  25. Hannes 14 March 2010 at 2:54 pm #

I agree, but I also think that some (very few) people with let’s call it twisted minds can’t be changed, and if they get too much power… What I’m saying is that unnecessary violence shouldn’t exist, and only in extreme cases should you fight back, it should allways be the last option.

  26. Tradakk 15 March 2010 at 6:51 am #

One word for MxMike, who doesn’t believe that peace will get anyone anywhere:
    Ghandi.

In mikes defence violence has been proven to work pretty effectively – Stonewall Riots, Battle of Seattle, White Night Riots..Not much Womens rights in England largely because of WW1 and The fact that the Black Rights movement was losing strength in America before Martin Luther was assassianted.

Been with you guys since I discovered Platypus online somewhere. Then weeks later I heard you on the radio.
Your new album is amazing. I listen to it every time I get a chance. This song is powerful and the collaboration is amazing. Keep moving forward Flobots.

  30. Jay Whitson 20 March 2010 at 4:55 pm #

It’s funny how people try to get a rise out of others. It’s funnier how it works. Quit wasting time bitching at each other and listen to the music. I like the Flobots. Great band. Being an avid Sage Francis listener, it’s strange to see something I like for sale at Target. Kudos.

  31. Jake T. 21 March 2010 at 8:31 pm #

This video is awesome. You guys need to make videos for more of your songs

  32. Dan 27 March 2010 at 1:02 pm #

I wonder if MxMike is familiar with the underlying causes of WW2. For instance, the fact that Hitler’s rise to power was enabled by Germany’s economy being in terrible condition after the reparations that were forced upon them after WW1 (which was, in turn, caused by an assassination), allowing Hitler to channel the peoples’ nationalism and frustration into violence against the Jews and others they deemed outsiders. Which essentially means that one war was the cause of the next.

I wonder if he realizes that this cycle has continued on, with Stalin’s regime being able to keep power as a result of having fought against Nazi Germany, facilitating their attempts to spread their brand of communism to other countries, leading to wars against communist regimes in Asia, as well as the long-running, mostly non-violent Cold War, which we were so intent on winning that we funded and trained the mujaheddin in Afghanistan in their efforts against Russia. Or how about the fact that the very mujaheddin we trained formed the group known as Al Qaeda, which currently sees us as their greatest enemy.

Violence begets violence begets violence. We haven’t won any wars, we’ve simply provided temporary peace as the stage was set for the next war. Military effort may work as a temporary measure, but we’ve seen more effectiveness when our forces are acting to protect and rebuild than when they’re killing and fighting. In the long run, killing only creates more killing. The majority of our soldiers may have honorable intentions in their choice to protect America by serving, but as long as those in power send them to kill, we continue to throw away their sacrifices.

I believe in defending oneself against violence, but taking the position of aggressor should never be an option.

  33. Dava S 29 March 2010 at 3:52 pm #

Let me chip in here. I know entirely that there are many people out there that agree with non-violence, but in all honesty, we wouldn’t be where we are today if it wasn’t for fighting back. We have had to fight for our freedom and make a place for our people in this world. Otherwise we would end up just like my fellow Native Americans….offering negotiations, trusting in the oppossing side to change, and opening up to let in anyone we believe we can make a difference with. The oppossing side would take over ever so slowly and what would be the response? Let them? Let them change the things that so many other people have fought for? Let all those people die in vain for our country? I honestly believe that poeple are missing the whole point of being an American. I’m not saying anyone is a ‘wimp’ or whatever crosses the mind. I’m just pointing out what many may not even think about. I stand by what I believe and that is, we wouldn’t be where we are today if it wasn’t for fighting for our rights. I love the song, it’s catchy, but I don’t totally agree with the lyrics and message it relays. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, thats one of the many freedoms we have here. It hurts too, I enlisted in order to help keep our values and rights as Americans and to hear such a thing, makes it seem like in general one is saying that what I am doing is throwing everything away, when rather, I feel full of pride for fighting for my country, it’s entirely voluntary. Everything is voluntary, to each their own, be glad that we have such a freedom, for if you tried that elsewhere out there and you weren’t American, one would get punished or mayhap worse. That’s all for now, just had to get a bit off my chest.

Fantastic! Was a little unsure about your music for awhile, have always been a huge Rise Against fan. You guys sealed the deal for me. Thanks for the great song I’ll go buy the album now. P.S. love the violin and combination of guitar rap metal.

I heard this song on satellite radio on Faction. I luv your album Fight With Tools!!!

  36. Bret 8 April 2010 at 9:02 am #

I heard this song for the first time today on the way to work. I had to find it so I text and drove the name of the song to myself, almost killing everyone around me to make sure I had it. Well worth the risk. Great song and great video.

  37. MxMike 12 April 2010 at 7:00 am #

Man…y’all are right…I’m not talking about going out and starting violence…but if the jews during wwII were armed when the nazis actually came for them they could have protected themselves.

  38. maribel 13 May 2010 at 7:06 am #

When there are peaceful ways to solve an issue, why consort to violence? Declare war and other nations follow. Either in agreement or in defense, people die. Who are they fighting for when the warriors are just weakening their population? Violence is a last resort. And when someone would rather die than destroy life. . . Well who the heck are you to ridicule? If you ask me, its about the freedom to say you refuse to fight, than being raised and fed all these reasons to stand and use your arms. I really believe this song is just educating you on this free will; the fact that choosing non-violence is another, valid option. And its not the ‘pussy’ way out. It takes a whole lot more guts to deny yourself a fight and instead say you want to negotiate than battle to the death.

On Tour… when in Spain??, there will be a fantastic festval at 8th July, Flobots can join to Rise Against and Antiflag, it could be perfet… so, see you soon.

Gandhi drove the british out of India using non violence and civil disobedience. I doubt he could’ve effected the change he did, if he decided to use guns.

Walker Douglas Westmoreland who is 5 years old met The Flobots while they took a day break in Georgia and loves White Flag Warrior and rocks it everyday, Thanks Guys!!!
